Demulsifier Selection Guideline for Destabilizing Water-in-Oil Emulsion for both non-EOR and EOR Application

The most common method for resolving water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions is chemical demulsification. bottle test a recommended procedure to analyze combination of essential parameters such as the demulsifier dosage, residence time, heat, degree agitation generate emulsion and effects after injection. It an extensive time-consuming selection procedure. Furthermore, previous guideline reported in literature had limitations was not suitable Southeast Asia region. This study describes development new that relates properties crude oil characteristics more representative environment. In developing guideline, four types synthetic were used, with API ranging from 27˚ 40˚. Sixteen demulsifiers relative solubility number (RSN) 11 21 evaluated comprising resin alkoxylate modified polyol base demulsifiers. An matrix developed by creating different wax contents, asphaltene content solid contents oil; then, screened all matrices. Based on demulsification completion matrices, then validated blind actual crude. validation results achieved 86.7% match rate between output lab experimental result. proved good agreement been established characteristics.
